Many of you know that I am a mongo Neil Gaiman fan. If you don't know who he is, go to your nearest library and check out a book. I recommend, oh, all of them. Anyhoodle, I am stuck in the middle of this needlepoint sampler. I need a caption. Like a good Neil Gaiman quote or something. What's your favorite Neil Gaiman quote? Just make one up if you don't have one.

Things need not have happened to be true.
ReplyDeleteDon't ever take a city for granted.
ReplyDeleteA crewel version of a fine man.
ReplyDeleteAnd sometimes, when you fall, you fly.
ReplyDeletei was going to say :Gayer than a tree full of monkeys on nitrous oxide, and then i realized you embroidered neil's face, and that wouldn't be an appropriate quote
ReplyDeleteLemon-scented sticky bats.
ReplyDeleteFrom the illustrious Twitter stream of one @neilhimself: "You are mistaken. That, sir, is not an all-devouring Dinosaur. It is, I believe, a Wednesday morning."
ReplyDeleteNot really a Neil Gaiman quote, but he quoted it. From the beginning of Coraline,
ReplyDelete"Fairy Tales are more than true; not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten."
-GK Chesterton

I would use anything from Sam's big long speech in American Gods: http://www.fantasymaps.com/stuff/gods.html
ReplyDeleteSpecifically, I love the last sentence. "I believe life is a game, that life is a cruel joke, and that life is what happens when you’re alive and that you might as well lie back and enjoy it."
"We do what we do because of who we are. If we did otherwise, we would not be ourselves." - The kindly ones. Tweeted this too, by mistake sorry.
ReplyDelete"Chicago happened slowly, like a migraine."
ReplyDelete"Sometimes you wake up. Sometimes the fall kills you. And sometimes, when you fall, you fly." ~ Todd Faber (Neil Gaiman's "The Sandman: Fables and Reflections")
ReplyDeleteGot it from a website so I'm not sure the reference is correct. I've seen it shortened to, "...when you fall, you fly." One of my favorites.
'Dreams are real. But they are made of viewpoints, of images, of memories and puns and lost hopes.'
ReplyDelete"So many things to see, people to do."
ReplyDelete— Neil Gaiman (Neverwhere)
"And then go home. Or make a home.
ReplyDeleteOr rest."
..or this beautiful jewel by Mr. Gaiman on twitter:
ReplyDelete"Goodnight Everything. If you secretly stop existing while I sleep & only start again when I wake up, do not tell me. I'll only worry" mm..might too long..
"Life is a disease: sexually transmitted, and invariably fatal." - Neil Gaiman
